This is essentially a true story of me and my best friend who were sent off to swimming lessons.  At first we were a little unsure of the whole adventure, as it sent us out of comfort zone.  However in the end we discovered that not only did we learn to swim but we also learned a few extra valuable lessons!

A bluff with a view of the sea.  What better place to sit, take in the moment and reflect on the warmth of a perfect summer day.  The kind of day that fills one with peace, serenity and expections of another wonderful day tomorrow.

Rising up 3441 ft. Cloudburst Mountain is located just north of the town of Squamish B.C.   With the Squamish River to the west and the Cheakamus River to the east, Cloudburst Mountain is highest point dividing the two rivers.  Snow often lingers on this peak through the summer and is a wonderful backdrop to the fall colours as they begin to appear.

This piece was also painted for the North Vancouver Arts Council Anonymous Show.

In the autumn before the mountain sets in for winter snows the trails on Mount Seymour are exceptionly scenic!  The small lakes are numerous and the red and gold colours reflect into the calm water. 

This piece was painted for the Anonymous Art Show hosted by the North Vancouver Arts Council.

The sun has dropped from sight but its radiant essence lingers behind the trees shining through onto the lake and straight to the viewer.  I painted this scene from memory of a lake called Browning Lake located in Murrin Park, near Squamish. 

This piece was painted for the Anonymous Show at the North Vancouver Arts Council Gallery.

I was fortunate to be sketching in Manhattan last week.  With the weather unseasonably warm I sat sketching in Bryant Park which adjoins the New York Public Library.  I took lots of great photos on my trip so I am pretty sure  paintings will follow shortly.

Another departure from landscapes, but isn’t that what creativity is all about!!  Whatever the inspiration might be…get it down on canvas!!!  Lucky the Duck and Lou the Teddy appear again on the shelf!!  So much fun to paint!!

I painted this a few years ago when I was in Fintry, B.C. visiting friends.  On the west side of Okanagan Lake  is Fintry Manor which was built in 1911 by Captain James Dun-Waters.  He bought acreage on the lake and named the area Fintry after his home in Scotland.   Before his death Dun-Waters essentially gave Fintry Manor and all surrounding land to the Fairbridge Farm School, an English philanthropic entity that educated underpriviledged children to be productive farmers.

The town of Creston B.C. is located between the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains.  This painting was done on a cool crisp day just outside of Creston looking at the Kootenay River. 

There is poetry in the view.  There is something about bringing back the actual day that I was there in mind, body and spirit and feeling the day all over again.  The warmth of the sun, the freshness in the air the wind lightly blowing against my face all come rushing back and for a moment time seems to stop.

Hanging out in my kayak in the Broken Group of Islands this August was truely amazing, as you can see from the painting.  With perfect weather and the calm seas  the reflections of the tiny islands became the centre of my attention.  I could literally put my paddle in the water beside my boat and with a few strokes change the whole pattern of reflection!
